Artificial intelligence apps and usage credits payment route checklist

Which local payment routes should an AI app, image/video generation tool, agent workspace, API-credit product, or prompt marketplace validate before selling usage credits in a new market?

Priority markets

Payment needs

  • Checkout support for prepaid credits, one-time packs, usage-based top-ups, trial upgrades, subscriptions, and team invoices.
  • Local cards, wallets, instant bank transfers, QR payments, bank debits, and payment links through a PSP, acquirer, gateway, or wallet operator rather than direct payment-method assumptions.
  • Reconciliation between payment events, user account IDs, workspace IDs, API keys, token usage, refund status, country, currency, FX, and settlement batches.
  • Clear handling for failed renewals, duplicate top-ups, refund abuse, chargebacks, disputed usage, and customer support where digital value is consumed quickly.
  • Provider review for AI-generated content, user-generated prompts, business use cases, sanctions screening, abuse controls, and cross-border entity structure.

Recommended route categories

  • Shortlist PSPs and gateways that already support digital goods, SaaS, subscriptions, payment links, and local methods in each target country.
  • Use payment-channel pages to identify customer-facing methods such as Pix, UPI, QRIS, GCash, Maya, MoMo, VNPay/VietQR, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Faster Payments, and Aani, then verify access through a PSP, acquirer, gateway, or wallet operator.
  • Keep a global PSP or merchant-of-record style option in the evaluation set for cards, tax operations, and fallback coverage, while checking whether local methods need separate onboarding.
  • For usage credits, ask providers how authorization, capture, refund, credit expiry, webhook retry, and fraud signals map to consumed digital value.
  • If the merchant has no local company, start by asking whether the current entity can onboard directly, whether local settlement is available, and whether AI or user-generated content triggers extra review.

Provider selection questions

  • Will you review Artificial intelligence apps, generated media, API credits, prompt marketplaces, workspace subscriptions, and user-generated content before integration work starts?
  • Can our current merchant entity onboard for each buyer country, or do we need a local company, local bank account, sponsor merchant, or merchant-of-record route?
  • Which payment methods are available through your PSP, gateway, acquirer, or wallet-operator route for prepaid credits and recurring plans?
  • How are refunds, partial refunds, chargebacks, disputed usage, duplicate payments, webhook failures, credit expiry, and account suspension represented in API and reports?
  • Can reports include user ID, workspace ID, invoice ID, credit pack, usage period, country, currency, FX, fee components, refund status, and settlement batch?

Risk and compliance notes

  • Do not assume AI, generated-media, adult-adjacent, deepfake, financial-advice, medical-advice, or user-generated-content features are approved because a provider supports SaaS generally.
  • Public pricing and capability pages are only screening inputs; obtain written confirmation for the exact AI use case, countries, entity, methods, settlement currency, reserves, disputes, and refund rules.
  • For Russia, Venezuela, and Myanmar, publish only compliance and risk warnings and do not present a concrete onboarding route.
  • If crypto tokens, trading signals, investment advice, identity generation, or regulated data processing are adjacent to the AI product, treat the account as manual-review first.
