Health, wellness and appointment booking payment route checklist

How should a telehealth, wellness, clinic booking, beauty appointment, fitness class, or coaching platform evaluate local payment routes without assuming sensitive categories are accepted?

Priority markets

Payment needs

  • Support for appointment deposits, prepaid packages, invoices, membership renewals, cancellation fees, no-show fees, refunds, and in-person to online payment links.
  • Cards, instant bank transfers, wallets, QR payments, mobile money, and payment links through approved PSP, acquirer, gateway, or wallet-operator routes.
  • Provider review for medical, wellness, supplements, mental health, regulated services, claims, prescription-adjacent offerings, minors, and professional licensing.
  • Reconciliation between patient or customer ID, appointment ID, provider ID, location, package, invoice, refund, dispute, country, currency, FX, and settlement batch.
  • Clear data-minimization expectations so payment metadata does not expose unnecessary sensitive health details.

Recommended route categories

  • Start with PSPs, acquirers, and gateways that explicitly review healthcare, wellness, professional services, or appointment booking instead of assuming general ecommerce acceptance.
  • For clinics and local services, compare payment links, QR, cards, instant transfer, wallet acceptance, and POS-to-online routes by country.
  • For platforms connecting independent providers, verify whether split payments, sub-merchant onboarding, provider payouts, and marketplace rules apply.
  • Use country pages and channel pages to identify methods such as Pix, SPEI, UPI, QRIS, GCash, PromptPay, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Ozow, and local cards, then ask providers which are allowed for the exact service category.
  • Without a local company, first ask whether foreign telehealth, coaching, or booking platforms can onboard and whether local licensing or bank account documents are required.

Provider selection questions

  • Will you review our exact category: telehealth, wellness, beauty, fitness, supplements, therapy, coaching, clinic booking, or appointment marketplace?
  • Can our current entity onboard in each buyer country, or is a local company, local bank account, licensed professional entity, or local acquirer required?
  • Which methods support deposits, appointment links, memberships, cancellation fees, refunds, and in-person or remote checkout?
  • How should we avoid putting sensitive diagnosis, treatment, or health information into payment descriptors, metadata, receipts, and support exports?
  • Can reports include customer ID, appointment ID, provider ID, location, payment method, refund, chargeback, currency, FX, and settlement batch without exposing unnecessary sensitive data?

Risk and compliance notes

  • Medical, wellness, supplements, therapy, prescription-adjacent, and professional-service claims can trigger underwriting and legal review even when appointment booking itself is allowed.
  • Do not promise card, wallet, BNPL, or local bank-transfer access for healthcare categories until a provider confirms the exact service, country, entity, and licensing position.
  • BNPL and installment options may be unsuitable or restricted for some health, wellness, or regulated-service categories; ask before showing them in checkout.
  • For Russia, Venezuela, and Myanmar, limit public guidance to risk notes and do not recommend a payment route.
